Depending on your moral position with regard to software ..
You can a) ensure a "backup files" from someone, Adobe Premiere, which is perhaps the best video-editing program out there IMO, and the result is an add-on that is worth a try.
OR b) the use of Windows Movie Maker comes with Windows XP. Program bit tedious, but I'll do what you must do.
